Major Sewer Improvement Effort

22nd Street Sewer Augmentation - Completed

The award winning, 22nd Street Sewer Augmentation project extended from Alvernon Way to Swan Road. This work was necessary because the existing pipe was at or near its maximum flow capacity. This project increased sewer volume and improved the lifespan of the sewer infrastructure in the area.

Construction took place along 22nd Street from Alvernon Way to Swan Road, including both the Alvernon Way and Swan Road intersections.

This project consisted of:

  • Installation of approximately 1-mile of new 12-inch sewer between Alvernon Way and Swan Road
  • Rehabilitation of sections of the existing 10-inch sewer along the south side of 22nd Street
  • Removal of the existing 8-inch sewer along the north side of 22nd Street
  • Relocation of the 36-inch water line crossing the 22nd Street and Alvernon Way intersection

The project team utilized the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) approach, which combines the efforts of the design engineer, the owner and the contractor working together as a team to complete the sewer pipe augmentation.

The project was completed two months ahead of schedule in October of 2016.
