Major Sewer Improvement Effort

Completed Project Archive

The sewer improvement projects listed below have been completed. Pima County has been and is currently rehabilitating/upgrading major facilities representing millions of dollars in investments. Ultimately, these improvements will extend the life cycle of our community's wastewater infrastructure by more than 50 years.

Mabel Sewer Improvement

Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) and its contractor Hunter Contracting Company are beginning work on the Mabel Street Sewer Improvement Project located near Pima Community College (PCC) Downtown Campus. This project addresses capacity concerns which were identified in the Speedway Sewer Augmentation Study.

Twin Peaks-Blue Bonnet Road Gravity Sewer Project

Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) and its contractor Achen-Gardner Construction have begun work on the Twin Peaks-Blue Bonnet Road Gravity Sewer Project. The project will provide a gravity sewer line near the Twin Peaks Road/Blue Bonnet Road alignment to serve development in the area.

Park Avenue Sewer Augmentation project

The Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) and its contractor Borderland Construction, began construction of the Park Avenue Sewer (PAS) Augmentation project on May 30, 2017. The PAS Augmentation project will upgrade a portion of the existing sewer to address capacity limitations and install a new 10-inch sewer interceptor line along Drexel Road from Park Avenue to First Avenue. This is part of a larger project that will also augment the Old Nogales Interceptor (ONI) from 36th Street to Old Vail Road and construct the new Aerospace Corridor (ASC) sewer along Old Vail Road from Nogales Highway to the Wilmot Prison.

Southeast Interceptor Sewer Augmentation (SEI) project

The Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department (RWRD) and its contractor, KE&G Construction, Inc., will soon begin constructing the Southeast Interceptor Sewer Augmentation (SEI) project, a 2.6 mile project, which extends south from 17th to 36th Streets and east along 36th Street between 7th and Euclid Avenues. The SEI project will upgrade a portion of the existing SEI to address capacity restrictions between 18th and 36th Streets.

The North Rillito Interceptor (NRI) project

The North Rillito Interceptor (NRI) is a large diameter pipeline that stretches 10 miles from Tucson's far east side to the Ina Road Wastewater Treatment Facility. This project was completed in April of 2017.

The South Rillito Interceptor (SRI) project

The award winning South Rillito Interceptor (SRI), is an $11.5 million project, which spanned from Columbus Boulevard to Tucson Boulevard along the south side of the Rillito River. The project was completed 3.5 months ahead of schedule and under budget.
